Create a Private Practice that is Client Centered and Provider FirstDr. Jennifer Chain provides consultation to therapists and other healing professionals who are looking to create or re-envision a private practice that is nurturing and sustaining for themselves.
You may have learned from your family, society, and formal training to put others’ needs before your own. You may have been taught that providing free or low-cost services is the only way to serve your communities and live up to your social justice values. This may have led to burn out, health concerns, financial stress, and doubts that you are cut out for this work. I have been there. As an Asian American female therapist, I had to unlearn a lot of cultural and societal messages about my value and worth to create a practice that is sustainable and joyful for me. While building my private practice in Seattle, WA, I found a network of friends, mentors, and consultants who showed me that it is possible to help others while create a life worth living for myself. Now I want to pay this forward by showing you the way. Your Private Practice Can Nurture Self Care & Your Personal ValuesI want to help you create a private practice that is client centered and provider first. There are many ways to do the work that we are so passionate about, serve the people that we want to work with, and still be able to pay back our burdensome student loans, provide for a family, save for retirement, take vacations regularly, and care for ourselves so that we can show up fully for our clients. I believe it is possible to love your private practice only when you are one of the many people that you care for. Self-care for providers is not something that we do only when we have time, energy, and resources left over; I believe it is the core to our healing power and, therefore, the priority of our practice.
